Understanding Incoterms

Clarify delivery, costs and risk in your international sales contract.

Agree responsibilities

Incoterms describe selected responsibilities between buyer and seller. Record the rule, named place and edition in the contract.

Choose for your shipment

Compare the rule against transport mode, insurance, customs obligations and your ability to arrange each stage. Some rules are intended for sea and inland waterway transport only.

Look beyond the rule

Incoterms do not replace a complete sales contract or specify payment terms and transfer of ownership. Agree those separately and check with qualified advisers.

Educational information only. Requirements vary by product, market and jurisdiction; consult current official sources and qualified advisers.
